Dysons secures landmark 10-year Electric Bus Franchise deal
Dysons proudly announces the Victorian Government’s award of a landmark 10-year metropolitan bus contract. The contract will see Dysons providing fully electrified bus services for 95 regular timetabled and school routes out of its Bundoora depot.
The contract combines two northern metropolitan franchises into a single operation requiring the delivery of 10.6 million service kilometres each year.
“This is a big win for Dysons’ employees and their families.” Managing Director and CEO, Andrew Jakab said.
“The electric bus contract places Dysons at the forefront of Victoria’s transition to a decarbonised and digitised economy whilst providing greater job security for its employees. For passengers, Zero Emissions Buses provide a safe, economical and environmentally friendly transport solution with a quiet ride experience incorporating the use of world class technology.”
To deliver the contract, Dysons will purchase 168 locally built electric buses over the ten-year contract term. Supported by its financial partners at CBA, Dysons will upgrade its flagship Bundoora depot over the next 20 months with electric charging infrastructure for 180 buses which involves the installation of 81 dual chargers. The upgrade is supported by an 11.4 mVA grid connection.
“The Metropolitan Zero Emissions franchise win is a major acknowledgment of Dysons’ track record of providing safe and reliable bus services to Victorians for the past 72 years and demonstrates its ability to adapt to the requirements of a modern, green economy” Mr Jakab said.
This announcement follows Dysons recent commissioning of its Shepparton Electric Bus Hub in August this year. “The Shepparton Hub brings Zero Emissions Bus services to regional Victoria and accommodates a further 130 Battery Electric Buses,” Mr Jakab said.
